My last day here at Hang Dai Studios. The rain pours down on the rooftop outside the windows as if to help me adjust to the Danish climate I’ll be returning home to today. I can’t wait to see my daughters. Yesterday I got some good work done, went over stories with Chris Miskiewicz again, and had a few beers at a local bar.
One of the guys here at the studio asked for Dean’s advice yesterday on whether to take on a particular storyboarding job. Dean replied: “You need the money? Then you take the job. And you fail hard. And you learn from that”.
Good advice.
Dean Haspiel comes off like a cross between a Yoda and a rowdy sailor. He’s constantly at his desk, working on a million different projects, always looking for new ways to do things, new things to learn. Even after dinner and drinks he will often go back to the studio to work late into the night.
Sometimes the atmosphere here is very frivolous, just a bunch of guys in a room talking bullshit. Other times people are very concentrated on their art. I really liked the guys here and I hope I’ll be returning someday.
Until then; Goodbye New York.
