On the move: SAN FRANCISCO

2. July 2011 by Palle Schmidt

Had some great family days here on the hilly streets of San Francisco, riding the trams, eating crabcakes and looking at sea lions. Today I visited the famous Isotope Comics on Fell Street, where I will be signing Wednesday July 6, between 4pm and 7pm. The owner also persuaded me to draw on a toilet seat, a part of the ultracool store’s permanent exhibit.

James Sime, who is always found behind the counter @isotopecomics, used to be a bartender, but missed a comics store focusing on graphic novels, and decided he’d open one himself. According to Sime, 60% of his customers are women. While we chatted, my 5 year old girl was sitting on the floor reading She-Hulk and was almost impossible to drag from the store. Who knows, maybe a whole new audience is waiting to take over this medium?

Isotope Comics is located at 326 Fell Street, San Francisco. See you there on Wednesday at 4!
