I rough-sketched all of “The Devil’s Concubine” pretty thoroughly, to get the layout just right and to make it readable to others. Here’s a look at a spread before and after. Page 2 was split into two pages, because it seemed a little cramped.

Working on the story, I got a big sketchbook that I used as a design manual. This is a spread from the actual book, one of the first scenes laid out with sketches, references and notes.

Before starting my work on “Stiletto“, I did a couple of character shots in different styles, to decide what materials to use. This guy got way to much attention in terms of character design. After all, he’s dead by page 4.
